Observations: Lip service Christians

Something seems wrong in this picture. And it isn't the fact that I'm not in it.

I’ve decided to do a series of posts on a certain theme. These will be everyday observations about religions and the religious. I thought it would be fun and informative to a sort of limited post on certain elements within the scope of religion that I see from day to day. So, let us be on with it then.

In religion, there is this common phenomena of what I call lip service Christians. Most of you will immediately grasp my meaning. These people often claim to be Christians when they clearly know almost nothing about the religion they purport to belong to and certainly rarely behave as though they are in any sense, religious. Often behaving in direct contradiction to basic religious tenets. When anyone points out these contradictions in their behavior or ideas, they will usually deny that they’ve made any error at all and explain their position using logical fallacies and non-sequiturs to give an impression of moral superiority or excuse whatever behavior they were engaging in. Sometimes claiming it is the other person that has misunderstood what it means to be Christian.

So this morning I was looking through my Facebook feed when I see a post by Playboy’s official page(If you must know, I like the articles. Ahem). So I click on the post and it opens a new tab and off I go to Playboy’s website where I’m greeted to a pretty awesome video of two guys shredding a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Pride and Joy on one of those crappy plastic little toy guitars in Wal-Mart of all places. After watching the video I somehow found my way over to a story about Chilean model who couldn’t figure out what to give her boyfriend for his birthday. Her friend apparently suggests giving him a three way and volunteers herself for the birthday project. Now, you might wonder why I’m reading this insipid story. Well, something in one of the pictures caught my eye.

Something seems wrong in this picture. And it isn't the fact that I'm not in it.

Still can’t see it? Let me help.

Yep, you guessed it. The girl who took her friend’s advice and brought her home for dinner and a romp in the sack with her boyfriend, is wearing an ancient miniature execution device around her neck. This Chilean Playboy model goes on later to have a fling with a fellow by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo, apparently some sort of famous sports athlete, and outs the affair to the media. As it turns out he had apparently cheated on his girlfriend of five years, Irina Shayk, with her and the relationship ended shortly afterwords.

Definitely not what evangelicals would call, moral behavior. But Christians do love their sex after all.
